St Vigor des Monts and surrounding villages stood in the path of the US 29th Division that landed at Omaha Beach on 6 June 1944.

Much has been written of the difficulties faced by the tanks and infantry pushing south through the sunken lanes and hedges of the Normandy bocage, clearing the occupying troops from towns and villages until they were forced through the Falaise Pocket at the end of August.
